Do. Not. Talk. Not to your family, not to your friends, and especially not to the police. Talking can never help you. No one has ever talked their way out of an arrest or criminal charges. If your story is inconsistent, the police will call you a liar for being too unreliable. On the other hand, if your story is consistent, the police will call you a liar for being too rehearsed. Even if you are 100% innocent, you cannot win by talking. The 5th Amendment protects you – you do not have to talk. Many convictions are won solely on statements made by the defendant, who has no obligation to talk to the government, including the police and prosecutor. Do not help the prosecutor convict you. Do. Not. Talk.
